Literacy Planning – Units

Children need something to talk about, something to write about and someone to write to. The following Literacy units provide teachers with ideas and resources to inspire young readers and writers. The Literacy units often begin with an exciting, interesting or unusual experience – giving the children a ‘real-life’ experience, something to write about.

We also suggest high quality texts, either books, poems or films that will give the children something to talk about, as well as provide good models of text coherence, sentence structure and vocabulary. All the units are planned around the teaching sequence for writing and provide opportunities for the effective writing pedagogies of oral rehearsal and Shared writing; Teacher modelling, Teacher scribing and supported composition.
