Hoverbike – Y4 Stories in imaginary worlds

This unit is based on the animation ‘The Hoverbike’

Anyone who has ever watched the film instantly loves it – and Dhobert soon becomes a favourite character.  The film has many uses and teachers and children alike have enjoyed lots of writing opportunities inspired by it – from instructions and letters of complaint to diary entries and even poems!

However, in this unit, we explore the language, character and plot.  Once the children have fully explored the film they orally retell the story before improvising a similar story in a different setting or with a different package.  Finally, they write their own version of the story in cohesive paragraphs, describing the setting and character to entertain the reader.
