In this unit, the children explore life in the town/city through shape poems. Using examples of shape poems by James Carter, the children discuss how the descriptive vocabulary, repetition and shape in each poem creates an impact on the reader.
They then use the short film Timescape to identify words and phrases to describe life in the city. Other films could be substituted for more familiar settings in rural areas.
