If you are not familiar with ‘the mysteries’ you will wonder how on earth you have managed to teach for so long without this set of illustrations. They are available in a book format, but I think this portfolio collection is so much more versatile it is well worth the extra money.
This unit uses the 14 illustrations by the mysterious writer Harris Burdick as a stimulus for writing narrative. It requires the children to be experieinced in writing various genre types and narrative techniques – it draws together everything they have learnt about writing narrative over the last 7 years allowing them to make individual authorial choices.
