The government is committed to raising attainment in reading for all pupils and have introduced a phonics screen for Y1 pupils from June 2012. They have also committed funds to support schools in purchasing resources and training and have offered up to £3,000 in matched-funding for all schools with KS1 pupils for items purchased from the approved catalogue .
A supplementery version of the catalogue is available here; supplementary phonics catalogue June 2012
Schools can still order from the existing catalogue; existing catalogue
Once the phonics screen has been administered, teachers will know immediately which children have not met the standard and therefore will need additional support to catch up with their peers. They may also want to review their approach to whole class teaching. Schools may find the materials provided below useful;

Schools wishing to book support for the audits and evaluation of current practice can contact me via the website or telephone.
I will be organising a series of free events to introduce teachers to the range of resources and training available through the catalogue and provide impartial advice on which would best suit their needs. Dates and venues to be decided. So, if you are keen to attend a ‘drop-in session’ or if you are happy to recommend your school as a venue, please contact me.
